J.M. Fourrier, Latricieres-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru, 2019 [NET]

Latricières-Chambertin is often described as Gevrey’s most understated Grand Cru—positioned just south of Chambertin, but higher, windier, and cooler, with thin, stony soils that produce wines of structure and restraint rather than opulence. Fourrier, known for his minimal intervention and intensely vineyard-focused approach, works this site with old vines and a feather-light touch—no punching down, no racking, and minimal sulfur.

The 2019 vintage brought ripe, healthy fruit, but also tension and aromatic lift. In this wine, that balance is breathtaking: wild cherry, black raspberry, crushed rose, and flinty earth rise from the glass, followed by a tightly coiled palate of dark fruit, graphite, and saline minerality. The tannins are fine yet firm, and the finish stretches out with energy and elegance.

This is serious cellar material, capable of 15–30 years of evolution, but already showing Fourrier’s signature clarity and detail. It’s Grand Cru Burgundy not just for collectors, but for lovers of nuance, restraint, and wines that speak clearly of place.
